Paying For Friends

My closest REAL friend is 45 mins away. It's another 3-4 hour drive to other REAL friends.
I've lived in my new city about 9 months and I still have no one that I consider a great friend. I have some fun people to hang out with, chat with, gossip with...but no one like the friends I grew up with or went to college with.
So, I was watching the news and there was this story about a website called Girlfriend Circles .
The site promotes connecting women with other women for friendship.
So for the sake of research, I signed up. I have a meeting with three women at a wine bar next week. Now a six month membership to the site is $29.95. And I have no idea if these women will be sane...but I think there's no harm. I figure what you put out is what you get back. If I put out a genuine effort to make friends, that is what I will get...right? Or do you guys think I'm crazy for paying to get friends.

  1. Actually, I'm down to try anything once... And since I'm moving to a new state in less than 3 days, I would definitely consider this... HOWEVER, my method of making new friends will start w/ the free avenues first like meetup.com... I think after maybe a year or 2 w/ no success I could see myself paying for friends.. Shoot it's better than getting beat for some friends... Think Greek!

  2. Grateful for my friends who are all PRICELESS to me! But, not opposed to paying a matchmaker to friend me up with someone. I wish they had operations in Paris!

  3. I think that you should go for it. Life is all about trying new things. Because how will you ever know if something works or is good, unless you try it?

HOWEVER, I'm opposed to the idea of "paying" for friends. There are so many other great ways to meet new people, too :)
